Just wanted to share this picture with you. I love the scale in this room. It’s obviously quite spacious with very high ceilings, and the designer has done a terrific job making it seem warm. The the large piece of art (as a dog lover, it really appeals to me) and the huge vase with tall branches brings everything into proportion.

dear grey you make me happy…
Who knew that grey could be so bright and airy? I just came across these stunning rooms on two beautiful blogs and I just had to share them with you. The first two are from Decor Happy, a blog I’m sure to follow now that I’ve found it.
I absolutely adore this bathroom. It just screams “serene” (yeah, yeah an oxymoron…I couldn’t help it). Me likey, me want!
Here…let me give you a hanky, ’cause I know you’re weeping, like me, at the very sight of this exquisite kitchen. I know my kitchen won’t look like this until my kids move out, though. Some how, some way, there WOULD be spaghetti sauce on that window covering. It defies all logic, but it happens at my house!!!
This image is from Good Measure, another fabulous blog that I will be following. I just love the grey island table and the black lantern light fixture–gorgeous.

smashing tiles…
I was watching Kirstie Alley‘s TV show the other night, and I noticed the tiles that Nate Berkus had installed throughout her kitchen on an Oprah makeover show. Although green tiles don’t sound appealing, these ones are somehow quite lovely. They have a beautiful shiny glaze and look like something you would see in a beautiful home in Mexico. This photo of Kirstie’s kitchen doesn’t do it justice.
So I thought it would be fun to look at some of the more interesting backsplash options out there (I’m an interior design junky, so any excuse to look at photos, and I’m all over it!). I really like this kitchen. Aren’t the blue tiles cheerful? The woven natural blinds are a wonderful contrast and keep it from being too cool.
The pressed tin tiles and the pink curtains remind me of a Parisian bistro. The cabinetry, tiles and leaded window all work really well together.
These sexy black tiles are intriguing. I’m not sure about the whole look, though. Something isn’t quite right, and I think it’s the white outlet covers. I don’t like how much they contrast, and I don’t like the fact that the covers don’t match the actual outlets. There has got to be a better choice–are there such things as stainless steel covers?
What is it about light blue tiles that just makes me swoon? They work beautifully with the chandelier!
I appear to have a thing for green tiles too…who knew? I would definitely consider this design in my kitchen…are you listening, Mark?

set design to die for…
In an attempt to keep my mind off profiteroles, I settled into my bed last night to watch Something’s Gotta Give–one of my all-time favorite movies! I adore Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton, but I covet that house! Oooh la la. Besides the amazing Kenton Nelson paintings, my absolutely favorite part of the house is Diane’s bedroom–that bed linen…that desk…that fabulous chair…those french doors…that beach view. Mark couldn’t believe it when I told him that girls do cry like that when their hearts are broken!
This photo was featured in an issue of Architectural Digest that discussed set design on SGG.
You can imagine my delight when The Holiday came on immediately after SGG ended. The part where Kate Winslet‘s character explains to Jack Black that she understands exactly what his broken heart feels like, kills me every time. The cottage in Surrey is so cozy and charming–the creamy blue kitchen cabinets are adorable. But it’s the house in California that absolutely blows my socks off. Hallelujah Nancy Meyers — you rock! Keep bringing us fabulous movies.
By the way…I’m happy to report that the Angel on my shoulder won the sneak-another-profiterole-while-everyone-is-sleeping tug-o-war! Phew.

Sophie Conran…
When I was blogging into the wee hours of the morning, I received an email from, Katharine, a friend in Spain, who loves Sophie Conran and suggested that I post some of her recipes. I think it’s very fitting, considering that her father, Sir Terance Conran, is a famous interior designer, and I carry Sophie’s line of tableware at Nicole Jane Home. I use the celadon blue tableware every day and I love it (washes up beautifully in the dishwasher and handles the heat of the oven). Look at how she uses the serving pieces! I use my souffle dish for trifles and 7-layer mexican dips, and I use the jugs for flower arrangements. All the pieces are multi-use.
Before designing her vast kitchen and tableware collection for Portemeirion (which won the ELLE Decoration Award in 2006), Sophie was a renowned cookbook author. Her website offers these recipes, which sound scrumptious (kids…momma’s on a cooking bender this week…hallelujia).

location, location, location…
My friend, Brita, graciously agreed to let me do the spring Nicole Jane Home photo shoot with Janis Nicolay in her lovely mid-century rancher. She and husband, Lawrence, completely gutted their new home a few months ago and the results are stunning–chandeliers, muted silvery-blue walls, amazing millwork (all done by Lawrence–he doesn’t know it but he’s my new boyfriend). I tried to steal the gorgeous blue chair in the front entrance, but I couldn’t get it into my purse. I’ll keep you posted on the photo shoot at the end of February.
Please keep in mind that my i-phone doesn’t take high resolution pictures (and…okay…I’m not the greatest photographer).

Sigh…
“Mark…if you build me this kitchen, I will cook dinner every single night…promise!!!” For those of you who don’t have my predilection for the color orange (What can I say? I’m a redhead…ergo…orange is hot!), substitute bar stools in a color that makes you swoon and you’ll be begging for this kitchen too. Look at that “quilted” backsplash…come on…just makes you want to grab a bunch of friends and start pouring the wine!
